Wind River Fly Fishing Spring 2019

May 9, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Wind River Fly Fishing Spring 2019: This last week when the flows bumped up on the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Our guides headed up river to the Wind. The fishing was decent to good and moss free, which is always nice when conditions aren’t great downstream. Fish are eating nymphs, streamers, and the occasional dry fly. The trout are hungry and healthy this year, and at Dunoir Fishing Adventures we have plenty of options for fishing during challenging conditions. We have plenty of options and water to fish when conditions aren’t good on the Bighorn or Wind River. The Green River is always a great option for the spring through early July.

Wind River Fly Fishing Spring 2019

Current water flows out of Boysen Dam feeding the Wind River and Bighorn River is at 1535 cfs until about mid-month of May. From there, we can expect another bump in flows depending on how much precipitation the basin receives. We are getting normal spring cycles bringing rain and snow, but days in between have been stellar.

The Wind River in Dubois has had a bump in flows, but has come down a little bit with the cooler temperatures that came into the Wind River Basin this week.

The moss on the Bighorn River has finally settled down. The boys where out today and reported great streamer fishing, and much less mossy conditions. With the right weather it is time to hunt heads and chuck some meat. Weather is only going to get nicer by the day. We are looking forward to another great 2019 fishing season with a lot in store.

Keep posted for current fishing reports and if you would like to call or send us an email go to our CONTACT PAGE. Join our Professional. Personable. Patient. guides today in Wyoming!

May 2, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Fly Fishing & Water Flows 2019: The fly fishing in Thermopolis, Wyoming has been pretty darn fun lately! Our guests have been catching BIG trout on nymphs, dry flies, and streamers. That is a tough combination to beat. Congratulations to Steve and Eric for a great day on the water!

Triassic Lake Wyoming Fishing Report 2019

April 21, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Triassic Lake Wyoming Fishing Report 2019 We are pleased to announce another amazing season on Triassic Lake. The true trophy Rainbows (24 plus inches, 8 pounds and better) survived another winter and are doing very well. The fish stocked in the lake last season, the freshman class, are now 18-20 inches and already fat. They are both going to grow a lot this summer. Triassic Lake is a true Wyoming fly fishing gem that contains the fattest, largest Rainbows!

Harry, Rusty and I scouted the lake yesterday and could not have asked for a better day. The fishing was steady and we were pleased to find it is going to be another exceptional season.

The Rainbows were keying in on EDC flies and small minnow patterns. The water temperature is perfect right now at 50-55 degrees. Our spring is bringing enough run-off and precipitation to keep the lake full and cool.

If you are looking for a pristine and private fly fishing experience from drift boat, then Triassic Lake is for you. Most people dream of catching a true trophy trout in a lifetime. Join us today and catch several trout of a lifetime on a 6 to 7 weight fly rode and 0-2x tippet.

The Rainbow trout on the left was as long as our Yeti 45 cooler and two-thirds the width of it. The amazing fishing was only part of the joy. We saw a bald eagle, mule deer, a muskrat, and several pronghorn antelope while fishing. This trip captures the wild and scenic experience that is hard to find these days.

If you would like to fly fish for the giants of Triassic Lake, contact us via email or give us a call on our CONTACT PAGE.

We have several trips coming up on the Bighorn River this week. Keep posted for more fishing reports to come.

Bighorn River Wyoming Fishing Report Spring Spawn

April 11, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Wyoming Fishing Report Spring Spawn: Fly fishing on the Bighorn River is going quite well right now. The river and the fishing is starting to warm up. A decent amount of big trout, including Brown Trout and Rainbows are coming to the boat. The first hatch of Blue Wing Olives are starting to come up. This hatch will make for some great dry fly fishing and hunting heads.

The Rainbow Trout are in full spawn and on the redds right now. We kindly ask that if you plan to fish the Bighorn River please avoid wade fishing and targeting trout on spawning beds. It is not good sport or conservation minded fishing to these fish. We are catching enough BIG trout in deep water from the boat below the shallows.

Bighorn River Fishing News Spring Flush

March 18, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Fishing News Spring Flush: Many people have been wondering if there will be a spring flush on the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming this year. Unfortunately, there will not be a spring flush this March. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, there is not enough inflow to conduct the spring flush this year unless we receive a lot more moisture in the next week.

The Bureau of Rec. is looking at bumping flows the first part of May to 2100-2200 until the spring runoff is over. We had enough “flushing” or big water the past few years. A normal water year looks to be the case.

Winter Fly Fishing Bighorn and Wind River in Wyoming

March 9, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Winter Fly Fishing Bighorn and Wind River in Wyoming: Winter is still hanging on in Dubois and Thermopolis, Wyoming. The Bighorn River and Wind River (near town) is still free of ice despite our cold spell that has fallen into both basins. It has been cold, but the rivers have been uncrowded and fishing pretty well.

It is starting to get into the Rainbow Trout spawn. We ask that anglers do not beat up on the redds and spawning fish. It is simple enough to fish the deeper runs downriver of these spawning beds, and you avoid a confrontation with other anglers who may not be so nice about fishing the shallow water. These spawning beds are the future of the fishery and it is our duty as anglers to help protect these areas.

Wind River & Bighorn River Fishing Report

February 13, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Wind River & Bighorn River Fishing Report: The Bighorn River in Thermopolis and the Wind River in Dubois, Wyoming have been fishing well despite some winter conditions. Both rivers are free of ice for the most part. The Wind River in Dubois is frozen west of town, but is free of ice in town and east of town to the Wind River Reservation boundary.

Our guides are still hitting the river and taking trips out despite it still being winter. We are looking forward to another great season, and dates are starting to fill up for the summer.  It looks like we will have a regular water year unless our spring changes significantly. We are looking forward to a “normal” year as far as runoff is concerned.

Bighorn River Wyoming Fish Count for 2018

December 21, 2018 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Wyoming Fish Count for 2018 : The Wyoming Game and Fish has just released fish count numbers for the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming. As many anglers know, we have had a few big water years that has been hard on trout populations. Last year’s fish count came in at 1100 trout per mile. This year’s count is looking promising with 1660 trout per mile. While not the 3600 trout per mile in years’ past. This is a positive sign that trout are doing well and hopefully we are on rise…pun intended.
