Bighorn River Fly Fishing Spring Report

March 16, 2017 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Fly Fishing Spring Report

Bighorn River Fly Fishing Spring Report: The Bighorn River in Thermopolis is currently flowing at 2067 cfs and Boysen Dam is currently sitting at 87.1 % full, which is slightly down from last week in the reservoir. The Bureau of Reclamation is upping flows early this year due to the high snowpack and anticipated high water flows this year. To see most current Wind River/Bighorn River water flows and information click HERE.

Fishing on the Bighorn has definitely picked up from the winter. The fishing has been great and we are really enjoying the higher water flows. The spawning fish are going to get a little more relief this year with the higher water flows. Wedding of the Waters is getting crowded on the weekends and anglers are definitely excited to get out and fish. You can tell it has been a long winter and cabin fever has set in. Hot flies include annelids, sow bugs, midges, streamers. We had a wonderful day this week with long time friends and guests, Pam and Steve. It is always a treat to fish with such great people!

Bighorn River Fish Camp Wyoming

Bighorn River Fish Camp Thermopolis, Wyoming: Dunoir Fishing Adventures is slowly developing our property on the Bighorn River. Our good friend, Jason Redman and the Phat Foam Crew  helped us out this weekend move our composting toilet and worked on improving our river access road to our private boat launch. We are slowly working on getting the Bighorn River Fish Camp set up. Right now we are using fish camp for our guides, friends, and family but do have plans for our fishing guests. Keep posted for more to come. Thanks again to Phat Foam, Steve and Pam, and our wonderful family and friends for such an amazing weekend working and fishing. We are truly blessed!

Bighorn River Wyoming Fishing Report

Bighorn River Fishing Report Wyoming

Bighorn River Wyoming Fishing Report: Temperatures have been cold and we have been receiving some snow. It looks like warm weather is on the way in the next few days. The river is floatable and fishable, especially on a little warmer day. Should the river become iced up on the Bighorn, Dunoir Fishing Adventures is one of three guide services that are permitted to float the Wind River below Boysen Dam.  There is always someplace for our guides to float and fish. Hot flies include: sow bugs, annelids, and midges. Streamers have been pretty decent too. We have guided trips coming up and boats going out in a few days. Keep posted for more fishing reports from the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming. The river is definitely not crowded right now, and it is great to shake the cabin fever!

Wyoming Fishing Report: Bighorn River, Green River, Lander/Dubois Region

Bighorn River, Wyoming Fishing Report: Water flows on the Bighorn River are starting to drop. Current flows are at 4590 cfs and the Boysen Dam Water Operations is reporting that flows will drop to 4000 cfs. Fishing will be a bit challenging until water flows stabilize out again, which will not be long. Fishing will be great and we are looking forward to dry/dropper fishing again. We had some fun trips go out last week.

Green River, Wyoming Fishing Report: Water flows on the Green River will be dropping from 6200 cfs on June 22 to 1500 cfs by June 30th, 2016. That is a big drop and fishing will be interesting. We have boats going out during this time and will keep you posted on how the fishing is. We are looking forward to it!

Dubois/Lander, Wyoming Fishing Report: Waters are also dropping in Dubois and in Lander, Wyoming. The stillwater/lake fly fishing is really picking up in Dubois along with the stream fishing. The Wind River is starting to shape up nicely. We have trips going out in Dubois this week, so more reports to come.

Bighorn River Fishing January Report

Bighorn River January Brown

Bighorn River January Brown

Bighorn River Fly Fishing January Report: Dunoir Fishing Adventures had a fantastic three days on the Bighorn River with Ed. Thanks Ed, and congratulations for catching some nice bruisers from the ‘Horn! January turned out to be a great month for drifting and fishing the river. Last year, the Bighorn had a major ice dam form near Hot Springs State Park destroying the dock at the take-out. So far, the river has been relatively free of ice. We will see what the next month brings. We have been busy taking reservations for this season on the Bighorn River, Green River, and the Wind River. Last season, our guides were completely booked from July to October with few exceptions. We encourage our guests to book their trips as far out in advance in order to reserve their guide for these rivers. Keep posted for more fishing reports and pictures to come!

Bighorn River Wyoming Fishing Report: Variable River Flows Grass Lift Moss

October 16, 2014 by Jeramie Prine

Moss, grass, and variable river flows

Moss, grass, and variable river flows

Bighorn River Wyoming Fishing Report: This weekend the fly fishing in Thermopolis started lights out with guide Jeff Judkins, and our friends Pam and Steve. Sunday was an entirely different scenario.  The weather wasn’t as good, and the river seemed to bump while floating. Major grass lift, moss, and rif-raf made fishing a chore to keep lines clean. Turns out, Bureau of Rec issued an order to facilitate repairs on Kirby Ditch. This week the river has fluctuated and bumped river flows from 1400 cfs down to 445 cfs. Fishing will be variable and boney floating until river flows settle down and stabilize. We imagine the river will be bumped up to 900 cfs when work is done…just a guess. Hopefully the moss and grass floaties will settle down soon, but may take some time. Keep posted for more river reports on the Bighorn and Green Rivers.

Bighorn River Wyoming Fly Fishing Guide Report

Bighorn River Wyoming Brown Trout

Bighorn River Wyoming Brown Trout

Bighorn River Wyoming Fly Fishing Guide Report: The fly fishing in Thermopolis remains to be great. Weather was very nice this weekend with crisp fall mornings and warm blue-bird afternoons. Guide Spike and Michael had a fantastic day yesterday tricking trout with dry fly and nymph set ups. Looks like we traded blue wing olives for tricos with the nice weather. Pretty typical but the trout seem to be very picky on natural dries, so cast and hook set all must be precise to seal the deal. The nymph fishing has been much more consistent and producing big numbers.

Hot flies: trico dries, baetis, annelids, and streamer/nymph dead drift
