Bighorn River Fishing Report Wyoming

January 9, 2017 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Fishing Report Wyoming

Bighorn River Fishing Report Wyoming: WARNING! Ice dam blocking the river at the railroad trestle between Wedding of Waters and 8th Street bridge. There is currently no way to get a boat over or through the dam at this point. Floating ice from 8th Street to Hot Springs State Park Rainbow Terraces and complete ice over north of Thermopolis. Temperatures have gone from negative digits and are slowly climbing. Temperatures are supposed to climb into the 40’s this week. The ice dam should break up in those digits by this week. We will keep you posted as soon as it opens up.

Today we floated the river and had a wonderful day cast and blasting. The fly fishing and the waterfowl hunting were absolutely superb. We were able to take our boat out on private property above the ice dam enabling us to float the upper Bighorn. A huge thank you to the landowners! We boated several nice rainbows and a couple of cutthroats today and two birds in the boat. Key flies right now are midges, baetis, worms, and sowbugs. It is 2017 so don’t forget to AIS boat sticker when floating on Wyoming waters.

Dubois, Lander, Thermopolis Fishing Report: Bighorn, Wind, and Popo Agie Rivers

DUBOIS, LANDER, THERMOPOLIS FISHING REPORT:

Bighorn and Wind Rivers: The Bighorn River flows have dropped to summer levels this last week and fishing will be improving. There is a lot of moss in the river right now, but much of that is due to the water coming down. Fish will start to pod up again and the dry fly fishing is only going to get better. The Wind River is fishing very well right now with a lot of BIG fish eating. There is very little to no moss in the Wind River making fishing great! Our weather has been outstanding with the occasional rain shower, but we have not had a full day of rain since June.

Dubois and Lander: The fly fishing in Dubois and Lander has been pretty spectacular. Our guests our catching nice browns, cutthroats, and rainbow trout. All of the rivers have come down from spring run-off and the fishing is great. We are using dry/dropper setups and finding fish eating on top and sub-surface. We love using big foam dry flies with a stonefly nymph when fishing these waters. We have been covering a lot of time on the tributaries to the Wind River and are still fishing in the lakes. The Wind River in Dubois is in prime shape right now for fly fishing. Call us today and we can set up a trip for your on any of these waters. Keep posted for more reports to come. Winter Fishing Report: Bighorn River Thermopolis, Wyoming

February 3, 2015 by Jeramie Prine

Winter Cutthroat Trout Bighorn River

Winter Cutthroat Trout Bighorn River

Winter Fishing Report: Bighorn River Thermopolis, Wyoming: The fly fishing on the Bighorn has been incredible the last couple of weeks. The key factor has been our warm temperatures and lack of the evil “W” (wind). Our guide, Jeff Judkins, was out the past three days with Ed. The boys where successful catching the trout grand slam: Rainbows, Browns, and Cutthroat trout. Ed not only earned grand slam status, but he caught some bruiser big trout to boot! Thanks Ed for the great time. Winter is the perfect time to drift boat fish the river due to fewer crowds, great fishing, and and beautiful landscape blanketed in snow. For hot flies think small midge patterns. In the winter every day is different, so changing out flies is a must. We are still offering our winter discounted trips for $380 for one angler or two.

Dubois & Thermopolis Fishing Reports

July 11, 2014 by Jeramie Prine

dubois_wyoming_kids_fly_fishing_brooks_lake_1_20140711_1186618320Dunoir Fishing Adventure’s fishing guides have been working hard in Dubois and Thermopolis, Wyoming guiding on the alpine lakes and the Bighorn River. We are in our peak season for guests and making sure all of our guests have a fly fishing adventure of a lifetime. The fishing has remained good to great despite our big water on the rivers. Guests have been catching rainbows, cutthroats, browns, and even lake trout. Hot flies lately have been a few foam terrestrials, tricos, streamers, and baetis nymphs. It is the season of the dry-dropper set-ups! The Bighorn River flows have been bumped up to 3750 cfs yesterday, which is up from 2000 cfs a few weeks ago. My family and I enjoyed a day off at Brooks Lake fly fishing in Dubois a few days ago. Little Meesha is showing promise of becoming a great fly angler and is perfecting her cast. Keep posted for more fishing reports to come.

In Dubois you will find yourself on the stream and in the mountains alone more often than not. Our guide service has both public and private access on the Wind and Bighorn Rivers that will help avoid crowds for a wilderness experience. If coming to fish in Wyoming, you must include a stop on the Wind River. Dubois is a reasonable drive from Lander, Jackson and Thermopolis, Wyoming.

DFA has one of three permits issued to fish Boysen State Park at the head of Wind River Canyon for trophy size trout. We suggest you wade or float the Wind River near Dubois for a few days. Then, drift boat fish with us on the very same river, the Bighorn, located in Thermopolis. We can help you with lodging options and suggestions in Dubois, Lander, and Thermopolis.

This trip will not be forgotten due to the history, geology, and of course the wonderful fishing. Expect to catch: Yellowstone Cutthroats, Browns, Rainbows, & Mountain Whitefish. For more information or to set up a trip, please check out our Contact Page or call us at 307-349-3331.
