Casting for Recovery: Dubois, Wyoming

Project Healing Waters Long Beach Program

Project Healing Waters Long Beach Program

Bighorn River Fishing: Thermopolis, Wyoming is dropping water flows each day, and the clarity is starting to improve. Fish are definitely starting to feed. We are taking out several fishing trips out on the Bighorn this week, so keep posted for more to come! It will be great to get back to the Bighorn knowing that the fishing should only get better each day! The Wind/Bighorn River is flowing at 5106 cfs with only 4300 cfs coming in. Boysen Reservoir should be out of flood stage tomorrow! To see current water flow data on the Wind River and Bighorn River please click HERE

Dubois, Wyoming Fishing Report: The past few weeks our guides have been busy in the Dubois area fishing the many tributaries. The streams and creeks have been fishing extremely well with dry-dropper setups. We have been honored to work with Casting for Recovery Wyoming and Project Healing Waters Long Beach Program over the past few weeks. It is always a very special treat for us to spend time on the water with some of the most amazing people! Thank you!

The water is dropping quickly in Dubois, and we have all been looking forward to fishing the Wind River. Unfortunately, the Wind River is low enough to fish, but there was a huge landslide that is sloughing in dirt and debris into the river. We are not sure when the river will clear up, but we will keep you posted. To read more about the landslide in the Wind River click HERE

Green River Fontenelle Fishing Report: The Green River below Fontenelle has been fishing well through high water and through the dropping of river flows. Guests have caught some beautiful trout and it is great to see the river fishing so well! High water years and plenty of precipitation have really helped the fishery! As the summer temperatures heat up, we will spend less and less time on the Green River to help protect the fish. The river flows are currently at 4770 cfs. Dubois, Wyoming Fishing Report & Bighorn and Green River Conditions

July 11, 2017 by Jeramie Prine

Dubois, Wyoming Yellowstone Cutthroat Fishing

DUBOIS, WYOMING FISHING REPORT: The fly fishing and the river conditions are slowly starting to improve in the Dubois area. The Wind River is still blown out and a lot of that is due to our afternoon storms that have been rolling in. The high mountain tributaries to the Wind River are slowly starting to shape up, but are still running big. We advise anglers to use caution wade fishing and not try to cross too swift of currents. That being said, there are a lot of productive channels to fish. We have been doing well catching some beautiful Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout, and been busy scouting all water in the area. We are honored to be able to fish with a group of excited anglers from Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing for the next three days.

BIGHORN & GREEN RIVER CONDITIONS: The Bighorn River is slowly starting to drop. The current river flows out of Boysen Dam are still at 8432 cfs and water is still off color. We are hoping to see some improvement this week as inflows have dropped significantly.

Green River fishing conditions are remaining good and we have had several trips go out the past few weeks below Fontenelle Dam. A lot of big fish are eating and our clients have been enjoying the great weather and solid fishing. The Green River is currently dropping river flows to 4000 cfs. Fishing has remained good through the drop. We have more trips going out in the next few days, so keep posted.

Bighorn River Fishing Guides

Bighorn River Fish Doubles

Bighorn River, Green River, Wind River Fishing Report: BIG WATER is here in Wyoming! Our guides and company love to fish BIG water, and our motto is BIG water, BIG fish. These are some of the largest river flows that we have seen in April. Usually, our big water comes in during May, but this year the Bureau of Reclamation on the Bighorn/Wind River and Green River are letting out water much earlier this year in anticipation of the big spring runoff coming from the mountains. We applaud the Bureau of Reclamation for releasing water earlier this year with hopes that the rivers will not be flowing ridiculously high all summer. Fishing on both the Bighorn and Green Rivers has been decent. This last weekend was tough on the Bighorn River due to murky water (rain) and unstable flows. The key to good fishing with big water are flows that remain stable. They have been working on Boysen Dam and have had to adjust flows to accommodate that. Currently the river is at 3900 cfs, but will be bumping back up to 5500 cfs for ten days starting tomorrow. Hot flies include: annelids, sow bugs, and baetis patterns. We are starting to finally see some nice blue wing olive hatches. Keep posted for more to come! To see current river flows for the Bighorn River click HERE. To see current river flows for the Green River click HERE.

Wyoming Fly Fishing Spring Report: Bighorn, Green, Wind River

March 24, 2017 by Jeramie Prine

Wyoming Fly Fishing: Bighorn River Wind River

Wyoming Fly Fishing Spring Report: Bighorn, Green, Wind River

Bighorn River Fishing Report: The fly fishing on the Bighorn has been great this early spring. Guide Todd Helms had a great day fishing with The Coaches and caught their share of  nice trout! The river is flowing at 2000 cfs while work is being done. Traffic is picking up and people are excited to to float. The Spring Flush is projected for March 28th. We will keep you posted as more information is available from the Bureau of Reclamation. In April, the river will be up to 3500-4000 cfs in order to help compensate for our large snowpack/runoff. It is melting by the day at a reasonable rate, and Boysen Reservoir is currently at 85.4% full. It seems like we are in for a great year with plenty of water. Our guides have some of the best experience for big water and know how to find the sweet spots! Hot flies right now are: annelids, sow bugs, midges, and the occasional streamer.

Green River Flows Below Fontenelle Fishing Report

Green River Fishing Report: The Green River below Fontenelle is increasing the water flow this week. Fishing will be a little finicky until the river flows stabilize at a consistent flow. It is going to be a big water year, but our guides’ experience and being in drift boats make all the difference for a good day on the Green River. We have caught some of our largest trout on big water years and look forward to what this spring and early summer will bring.
