Bighorn River Flush, Wind River & Green River Fishing Reports

June 2, 2020 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Flush, Wind River, Green River Fishing Reports: The big question is how is Wyoming fishing right now? We are in the height of the spring runoff and things are definitely interesting. The Bighorn River will be going through a flush this Thursday and Friday. Flows will bump from 1400 CFS to 3200 CFS to flush the moss from the river. Fishing has been great, but you have to work hard to make sure your flies are clean.  The bump in flows should significantly help with the moss situation. We will keep you posted.

Bighorn River Flush, Wind River & Green River Fishing Reports

We have also been running trips on the Green River near Fontenelle, Wyoming. River flows are up, but fishing is great right now. This is one of our favorite times to be on the Green River. Low crowds, great fishing, and beautiful weather (wind dependent) are the norm on the river.

The Wind River in Dubois, Wyoming is entering the height of spring runoff. It is a tough time to fish the upper Wind River, but there are plenty of still-water opportunities and soon the upper tributaries will start fishing.

For those who are interested in true trophy Rainbow Trout, now is the time to book your Triassic Lake trip! We will be guiding this private lake until the beginning of July. Clients have been catching trout in the 6-10 pound weight class and fishing is on fire!

Bighorn River Fishing: Thermopolis, Wyoming is dropping water flows each day, and the clarity is starting to improve. Fish are definitely starting to feed. We are taking out several fishing trips out on the Bighorn this week, so keep posted for more to come! It will be great to get back to the Bighorn knowing that the fishing should only get better each day! The Wind/Bighorn River is flowing at 5106 cfs with only 4300 cfs coming in. Boysen Reservoir should be out of flood stage tomorrow! To see current water flow data on the Wind River and Bighorn River please click HERE

Dubois, Wyoming Fishing Report: The past few weeks our guides have been busy in the Dubois area fishing the many tributaries. The streams and creeks have been fishing extremely well with dry-dropper setups. We have been honored to work with Casting for Recovery Wyoming and Project Healing Waters Long Beach Program over the past few weeks. It is always a very special treat for us to spend time on the water with some of the most amazing people! Thank you!

The water is dropping quickly in Dubois, and we have all been looking forward to fishing the Wind River. Unfortunately, the Wind River is low enough to fish, but there was a huge landslide that is sloughing in dirt and debris into the river. We are not sure when the river will clear up, but we will keep you posted. To read more about the landslide in the Wind River click HERE

Green River Fontenelle Fishing Report: The Green River below Fontenelle has been fishing well through high water and through the dropping of river flows. Guests have caught some beautiful trout and it is great to see the river fishing so well! High water years and plenty of precipitation have really helped the fishery! As the summer temperatures heat up, we will spend less and less time on the Green River to help protect the fish. The river flows are currently at 4770 cfs. Dubois, Wyoming Fishing conditions are starting to improve and the Wind River has dropped significantly. We have been guiding on the mountain lakes and fishing has been good. We want to thank our guests Andrew and Kay who joined us all the way from Scotland! We had a wonderful day on the water!

Bighorn River Fishing Report

Bighorn River Fishing Winter Report

Bighorn River Fishing Report Thermopolis, Wyoming: Dunoir Fishing Adventures guides have been busy guiding on the Bighorn River this last week. The fly fishing has been absolutely outstanding and the weather has been wonderful for winter. There have been a few storms that have rolled in lately and that seems to slow the fishing down just a bit, but as soon as the temperatures come up so does the fishing. Guide Jeff Judkins  had three great days out with one of our favorite guests, Ed, on the Bighorn River. The fishing was lights out each day. Ed pulled in some nice trout on annelids, midges, sow bugs, and had one great day on streamers. Always fun.

Bighorn River Clean Up

Guide, Todd Helms, helped out with Trout Unlimited Bighorn River Clean Up day and hauled in a boat load of trash. This is the first annual event that brought in several guides from the area and spearheaded out of Cody, Wyoming. We were happy to see this event come into fruition as it has been talked about a lot but never done. We appreciate all those volunteers who came to clean the Bighorn River up just in time for spring fishing. We know all people who will float and fish the Bighorn River this year will be happy to see how clean the river is right now!

On another note, guide Jeramie Prine, snowmobiled into the headwaters of the Bighorn River (Wind and Dunoir Rivers) this weekend and there is a tremendous amount of snow in the high country. Early summer conditions will be very interesting. More on that to come in the next report. Keep posted.

DUBOIS, LANDER, THERMOPOLIS FISHING REPORT:

Bighorn and Wind Rivers: The Bighorn River flows have dropped to summer levels this last week and fishing will be improving. There is a lot of moss in the river right now, but much of that is due to the water coming down. Fish will start to pod up again and the dry fly fishing is only going to get better. The Wind River is fishing very well right now with a lot of BIG fish eating. There is very little to no moss in the Wind River making fishing great! Our weather has been outstanding with the occasional rain shower, but we have not had a full day of rain since June.

Dubois, Wyoming Fly Fishing

Dubois, Wyoming Fly Fishing

Dubois and Lander: The fly fishing in Dubois and Lander has been pretty spectacular. Our guests our catching nice browns, cutthroats, and rainbow trout. All of the rivers have come down from spring run-off and the fishing is great. We are using dry/dropper setups and finding fish eating on top and sub-surface. We love using big foam dry flies with a stonefly nymph when fishing these waters. We have been covering a lot of time on the tributaries to the Wind River and are still fishing in the lakes. The Wind River in Dubois is in prime shape right now for fly fishing. Call us today and we can set up a trip for your on any of these waters. Keep posted for more reports to come. Wyoming Fishing Report: Bighorn River, Green River, Lander/Dubois Region

Bighorn River, Wyoming Fishing Report: Water flows on the Bighorn River are starting to drop. Current flows are at 4590 cfs and the Boysen Dam Water Operations is reporting that flows will drop to 4000 cfs. Fishing will be a bit challenging until water flows stabilize out again, which will not be long. Fishing will be great and we are looking forward to dry/dropper fishing again. We had some fun trips go out last week.

Green River, Wyoming Fishing Report: Water flows on the Green River will be dropping from 6200 cfs on June 22 to 1500 cfs by June 30th, 2016. That is a big drop and fishing will be interesting. We have boats going out during this time and will keep you posted on how the fishing is. We are looking forward to it!

Dubois/Lander, Wyoming Fishing Report: Waters are also dropping in Dubois and in Lander, Wyoming. The stillwater/lake fly fishing is really picking up in Dubois along with the stream fishing. Green River, Bighorn River, Dubois & Lander Fishing Report

Green River Wyoming Brown

Green River Wyoming Brown

Green River, Bighorn River, & Dubois & Lander Fishing Report:

Green River: Guide, Jeff Judkins, had a stellar day on the Green River earlier this week. Our guests caught several nice browns and cutthroat trout in the 20 plus inch range. The river was flowing at 2500 cfs on Tuesday and by this weekend the river will be bumped up to 5000 cfs. This will make fishing a little tricky during the bump, but once the flows stabilize fishing will be outstanding again.

Bighorn River: The river flows have stabilized on the Bighorn River. Inflow from the Wind River into Boysen Reservoir is 9818 cfs and Boysen dam is releasing 5034 cfs into the Wind River and Bighorn River (this is subject to change). Yellow Sallies have started to hatch and the river is big making for fantastic fishing. We equate big water to big fish and absolutely love guiding in these conditions. More reports to come later this week from the Bighorn River.

Dubois & Lander Waters: The Wind River in Dubois and the streams in Lander are pretty much peaking making waters high and a bit off color. The fishing on the lakes (stillwater fly fishing) and the high mountain streams is the ticket right now. Fish are always to be had in the Wind River and Absaroka Mountain Ranges.

Welcome to 2016! Bighorn, Green, and Wind River Fishing

January 17, 2016 by Jeramie Prine

First fish of 2016!

First fish of 2016!

Dunoir Fishing Adventures would like to wish all of our friends and guests a warm welcome into 2016! We have started fishing off right in the Wind River Basin taking advantage of the cold temperatures and good ice, making for safe fishing. This last fall our fishing guides were busy, busy guiding on the Bighorn and Green Rivers, hence the lack of guide reports. Our New Year’s resolution is to keep up with reports so that you can be more informed on fishing conditions. We have a lot in store for 2016. Our guides are looking forward to being on the water with the Project Healing Waters-Platte Rivers Chapter and Wyoming Casting for Recovery in Dubois, Wyoming. These days on the water are some of the most memorable and special for our guides. We are blessed to be apart of these programs!
