Bighorn River Fishing Conditions Wyoming

January 12, 2017 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Fishing Report Wyoming

Bighorn River Fishing Conditions Wyoming: Good news! The warm weather this week helped to defrost the river. The ice dam between Wedding of the Waters and Hot Springs State Park is now gone! There is little to no ice floating down the river and conditions are in good shape for winter fly fishing. This weekend is the last to hunt waterfowl. We had a great weekend this last week with good luck with both the cast and the blast. There was never a dull moment in the boat. Hot flies right now are worms, midges, sowbugs, and streamers. Our guides love fishing in all conditions and seasons, but winter is a whole different special. Not much traffic on the river, nice backdrop, and stellar fly fishing. We are still offering our winter special for $350 (one angler or two).

Bighorn River Fishing Report Wyoming

Bighorn River Wyoming Fishing Report: Temperatures have been cold and we have been receiving some snow. It looks like warm weather is on the way in the next few days. The river is floatable and fishable, especially on a little warmer day. Should the river become iced up on the Bighorn, Dunoir Fishing Adventures is one of three guide services that are permitted to float the Wind River below Boysen Dam.  There is always someplace for our guides to float and fish. Hot flies include: sow bugs, annelids, and midges. Streamers have been pretty decent too. We have guided trips coming up and boats going out in a few days. Keep posted for more fishing reports from the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming. The river is definitely not crowded right now, and it is great to shake the cabin fever!

Bighorn River Winter Fishing in Wyoming

Bighorn River Winter Fishing in Wyoming

Bighorn River Fishing Report Thermopolis, Wyoming: Dunoir Fishing Adventures’ guide, Jeramie, fished the Bighorn River yesterday. The fly fishing was great and the weather very cooperative for January fishing. The river is free of ice and boat ramps are not too slick. Trout are holding in deeper slower water with annelids and sow bugs being the ticket. There was about a half an hour of a blue wing olive hatch and a few heads poking up giving opportunity for dry fly fishing. Dunoir Fishing Adventures will be guiding several days this week, so keep posted for more fishing reports to come. We are currently offering discounted drift boat fishing trips for $400, one angler or two. Give us a call or shoot us an email for more details. For more photos of yesterday’s trip check out our Bighorn River Facebook Page.

Winter Fishing Report: Bighorn River Thermopolis, Wyoming

Winter Cutthroat Trout Bighorn River

Winter Cutthroat Trout Bighorn River

Winter Fishing Report: Bighorn River Thermopolis, Wyoming: The fly fishing on the Bighorn has been incredible the last couple of weeks. The key factor has been our warm temperatures and lack of the evil “W” (wind). Our guide, Jeff Judkins, was out the past three days with Ed. The boys where successful catching the trout grand slam: Rainbows, Browns, and Cutthroat trout. Ed not only earned grand slam status, but he caught some bruiser big trout to boot! Thanks Ed for the great time. Winter is the perfect time to drift boat fish the river due to fewer crowds, great fishing, and and beautiful landscape blanketed in snow. For hot flies think small midge patterns. In the winter every day is different, so changing out flies is a must. We are still offering our winter discounted trips for $380 for one angler or two.

Bighorn River Fly Fishing Winter Report

Winter fly fishing Bighorn River, Wyoming

Winter fly fishing Bighorn River, Wyoming

Bighorn River Fly Fishing Winter Report: Cabin fever has set in, great weather report for today equals fly fishing on the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming! The river is clear and free of ice from Wedding of the Waters to 8th Street after the big ice jam and arctic weather we experienced a few weeks ago. It was great to get back on the river again with our good friends Dave and Asha. It was all about the kiddos today and we made sure to get the rod in their hands. We had three children under 12 years old and there was nothing but smiles for miles and good memories made. Fish were keying in on midges, and small bugs. We did see a few nice fish rise for midges on top. With a little more weather we will be fishing dry flies in the middle of winter. We have boats going out this next week, so keep posted for more reports to come. Jump in our boat for our Winter Drift Boat Special on the Bighorn River in Thermopolis for $380 (one or two anglers).

Bighorn River Rainbow with a mouthful

Bighorn River Rainbow with a mouthful

Fly fishing in Wyoming was absolutely outstanding on the Bighorn, Wind, and Green River this year. Big water equaled big fish! We would like to thank all of our friends and guests who joined us this season. We are finished with hunting season, the meat is in the freezer, and we would like to show our gratitude by offering WINTER RATES on drift boat trips. Our winter rates are $380 for drift boat trips (one angler or two), so join us for a trip today. The weather lately has been outstanding for December. We are in the season of small nymphs and midges. Keep posted for more guide reports to come soon! This photo is from our friend Dave who caught this brute rainbow Bighorn River trout. Notice the fish tail sticking out of its mouth. Talk about biting off more than you can chew! We pulled the little fish out and it was eight inches long.
