Bighorn River Big Brown Trout Guides 2022

April 23, 2022 by Jeramie Prine

Bighorn River Big Brown Trout Guides 2022

The Bighorn River is fishing really well right now. Dunoir Fishing Adventures guides and guests are catching multiple large brown trout and rainbows. There is always the chance at catching a big bruiser cutthroat trout as well, especially in the spring. Nymphing and streamer fishing has been productive. On the right day, trout are coming up to dry flies. Wyoming and the Bighorn River have been fortunate in receiving solid spring storms to help out with the dry winter. Precipitation rates and snowpack are nearing yearly average and could surpass that if storms keep moving in.

Dunoir Fishing Adventures would like to thank our guests who booked drift boat trips on the Bighorn and Green River early this year and received the “Early Bird Gets the Worm Discount.” All wade fishing trip rates in Dubois will remain the same for 2022. Bighorn River Fly Fishing 2020

Bighorn River Fly Fishing 2020

Bighorn River Fly Fishing

Bighorn River Fly Fishing

Bighorn River Fly Fishing Report, Thermopolis, Wyoming: Fly fishing has been pretty darn great the past couple of weeks. The Bighorn River is in good shape and the trout have wintered well. We are catching a lot of big trout, but there is a healthy class of 12-14 inch trout as well.

The weather has really heated up this past week, and the snow pack is melting quickly. This melt caused the Bighorn River to blow out this weekend. The snow is just about gone in Thermopolis. The weather is supposed to be nice all week. Sunshine and warmth is very much welcome!

Please respect the Rainbow Trout redds (spawning grounds) as they are busy doing their reproducing. Do not wade or fish the large white patches in the river. We need trout to reproduce to have a healthy river.

Triassic Lake Wyoming Fishing Report 2019

April 21, 2019 by Jeramie Prine

Triassic Lake Wyoming Fishing Report 2019 We are pleased to announce another amazing season on Triassic Lake. The true trophy Rainbows (24 plus inches, 8 pounds and better) survived another winter and are doing very well. The fish stocked in the lake last season, the freshman class, are now 18-20 inches and already fat. They are both going to grow a lot this summer. Triassic Lake is a true Wyoming fly fishing gem that contains the fattest, largest Rainbows!

Triassic Lake Wyoming Fishing Report 2019

Harry, Rusty and I scouted the lake yesterday and could not have asked for a better day. The fishing was steady and we were pleased to find it is going to be another exceptional season.

The Rainbows were keying in on EDC flies and small minnow patterns. The water temperature is perfect right now at 50-55 degrees. Our spring is bringing enough run-off and precipitation to keep the lake full and cool.

If you are looking for a pristine and private fly fishing experience from drift boat, then Triassic Lake is for you. Most people dream of catching a true trophy trout in a lifetime. Join us today and catch several trout of a lifetime on a 6 to 7 weight fly rode and 0-2x tippet.

The Rainbow trout on the left was as long as our Yeti 45 cooler and two-thirds the width of it. The amazing fishing was only part of the joy. We saw a bald eagle, mule deer, a muskrat, and several pronghorn antelope while fishing. This trip captures the wild and scenic experience that is hard to find these days.

If you would like to fly fish for the giants of Triassic Lake, contact us via email or give us a call on our CONTACT PAGE.

We have several trips coming up on the Bighorn River this week. Keep posted for more fishing reports to come.

Wyoming Fly Fishing Spring Report: Bighorn, Green, Wind River

March 24, 2017 by Jeramie Prine

Wyoming Fly Fishing: Bighorn River Wind River

Wyoming Fly Fishing Spring Report: Bighorn, Green, Wind River

Bighorn River Fishing Report: The fly fishing on the Bighorn has been great this early spring. Guide Todd Helms had a great day fishing with The Coaches and caught their share of  nice trout! The river is flowing at 2000 cfs while work is being done. Traffic is picking up and people are excited to to float. The Spring Flush is projected for March 28th. We will keep you posted as more information is available from the Bureau of Reclamation. In April, the river will be up to 3500-4000 cfs in order to help compensate for our large snowpack/runoff. It is melting by the day at a reasonable rate, and Boysen Reservoir is currently at 85.4% full. It seems like we are in for a great year with plenty of water. Our guides have some of the best experience for big water and know how to find the sweet spots! Hot flies right now are: annelids, sow bugs, midges, and the occasional streamer.

Green River Flows Below Fontenelle Fishing Report

Green River Fishing Report: The Green River below Fontenelle is increasing the water flow this week. Fishing will be a little finicky until the river flows stabilize at a consistent flow. It is going to be a big water year, but our guides’ experience and being in drift boats make all the difference for a good day on the Green River. We have caught some of our largest trout on big water years and look forward to what this spring and early summer will bring.

According to the Bureau of Reclamation river flows will be around 2000 cfs for March. It is anticipated that the spring flush will be happening around March 28th. This is subject to change should the weather have other ideas. April water flows will be around 3000-3500 cfs. To see most current Wind/Bighorn River water flow click: HERE

Wind River Snowpack fishing guide

Wind River Absaroka Mountain Snowpack

The snowpack in the Wind River and Absaroka Mountains is quite abundant this year. It is reminiscent of 2011; the last big water year that we have experienced. The Bighorn River, Green River, and Wind River along with many waters around the state will be running full this year if snowpack is a predictor of anything. We took a scouting trip into the head of of the Wind River/Bighorn River headwaters region at the Ram’s Horn Guest Ranch. Our cabins are completely buried under huge wind blown drifts. We will continue to monitor the high country and keep you posted on those conditions.

Bighorn River Fish Camp Wyoming

Bighorn River Fish Camp Wyoming

BIG NEWS! Dunoir Fishing Adventures is closing on roughly 100 acres of prime Bighorn River front property near Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis, Wyoming. The new property lends itself to great fishing, hunting, recreational opportunities, and has absolutely stunning views and access to the Bighorn River. Our new land is private and has a wilderness-like feel to it even though it is so close to Thermopolis. We have our work cut out for us and some exciting plans in the works, so please keep posted as we move forward into an exciting new chapter of our fly fishing experience. Dunoir Fishing Adventures is thankful for the opportunity to carry on our long Wyoming family legacy, and plans on passing this down to the fifth generation. We would like to thank Kirby Ditch Company Board and Tom Nelson of ReMax for all of the help in acquiring this pristine property. More photos are posted on our Facebook page.

Green River Wyoming Fly Fishing Report

Green River Kokanee Salmon Fall Fly Fishing

Green River Kokanee Salmon Fall Fly Fishing

Green River Wyoming Fly Fishing Report: The fly fishing on the Green River was fantastic today. We teamed up with guide Ryan Hudson with Green River & Bridger-Teton Outfitters guiding a group of serious falconers who hunt with their falcons every year here in Wyoming. Conversation was rich in the boat today. The guys fished well catching Kokanee Salmon, rainbow trout, and scads of whitefish. We avoided the brown trout redds and didn’t manage to pull one all day between two boats. The Kokanee run is about over with lots of dead fish in the water. The weather was outstanding with zero wind and perfect temperatures. Rare for the Green River. Keep posted for our Bighorn River report soon.

Bighorn River Guide Report Wyoming Fall Fishing

Bighorn River Fall Fly Fishing Wyoming

Bighorn River Fall Fly Fishing Wyoming

Bighorn River Guide Report: Wyoming fall fly fishing was in full effect yesterday with the Cetco Crew. We were expecting snow in the morning, but endured hours of rain making the fishing a little cold. The blue wing olive hatch was as thick as they come blanketing the river with tents of mayflies. Heads were poking up most of the day. We had three boats out and everyone had a great time seeing what the Bighorn fishing is all about. Here is Steve with a beautiful Bighorn River Rainbow. Congrats Steve and Mark and thanks for the great day!

Patterns used: baetis, blue wings, and annelids
